MUFC revealed on Fri. night that they are currently working to “minimise” the disruption, & the game against West Brom on Sat. went ahead as planned.
The club also explained that they have been prepared for such an attack, & that they are currently ‘not aware’ of any breach of personal data linked to fans.
Systems
An official statement commented, “Manchester United can confirm that the club has experienced a cyber-attack on our systems.
“The club has taken swift action to contain the attack & is currently working with expert advisers to investigate the incident & minimise the ongoing IT disruption.
“Although this is a sophisticated operation by organised cyber-criminals, the club has extensive protocols & procedures in place for such an event & had rehearsed for this risk.
Protect Data
“Our cyber defences identified the attack & shut down affected systems to contain the damage & protect data. Club media channels, including our website & app, are unaffected & we are not currently aware of any breach of personal data associated with our fans & customers.
“All critical systems required for matches to take place at Old Trafford remain secure and operational & tomorrow’s game against West Bromwich Albion will go ahead.”
A spokesman for Manchester United further observed “These types of attacks are becoming more & more common & are something you have to rehearse for.”
